BIOGRAPHY

I was born in Rome in 1958. Since I was a child I have always been fascinated about natural history, with a particular interest for insects in their natural habitat. After many years of observing and collecting insects I have developed the idea to document wildlife by the photography of small invertebrates. My interests became more specialised focussing on the study of Biospeleology. This interest introduced me to all the techniques required to go into caves with ropes and other similar things, consequenly I also became familiar with the mountain environment.

Initially my cameras where not professional ones, but despite this, the results where encouraging but for me not quite good enough and I was always striving to achieve  perfection. I never sold my cameras and my collection of 20 camaras that I now posses  gives you an the idea of my continuous search of photographic equipment for specific jobs.

The arrival of digital photography has completely changed my method of documentation and made my job much easier, without waiting for my slides to come back and in some cases  giving me the results I didn't particularly want.

Initially I did not trust digital technology because it was incomparable with film. Today though, I only use digital, which has reached the film quality and will give more in the future.

My photography has always been a simple record of the animal in his environment, not seeking an artistic point of view. This is also because of the cost of films and processing. Today, all this has changed and with digital you can take what you want  and make all photos you want at almost zero cost.

For all these reasons I decided to make this home-page, for displaying  and exchanging my documentation of nature. My goal is constant improvement, being convinced that I can always improve my results and that perfection is never quite reached.
